We’re proud to announce our next speaker for Skepticon 9: Carrie Poppy!
Carrie Poppy is a journalist, performer, and cohost of “Oh No, Ross and Carrie,” the podcast, a show about fringe science, spirituality, and claims of the paranormal. Carrie and her co-host Ross have joined Scientology, the Raelians, the Mormon church and other insular groups to better understand the fringe side of belief and spirituality. They’ve also been cupped, acupunctured, reiki’d, poked and prodded by myriad alternative medicine practitioners and new-age believers. Over the last five years, “Oh No, Ross and Carrie” has grown from a tiny operation started on the floor of Carrie’s apartment, to an internationally-celebrated show with over a quarter-million downloads every month. Carrie holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California, and has won two L.A. Press Club awards, one Podcast Award, one “Iggy,” and 1st place in a cake decorating contest in second grade. She has a column called “Poppycock” in Skeptical Inquirer, and reports regularly for various outlets. She lives with her gentleman caller and adopted mutt in Los Angeles.
