Talk title: Family: Is It All Relative?
Talk description: Just the word “family” can be emotionally evocative, if not loaded. The less aligned with mainstream society you are, the more pronounced the potential for unease around the idea of family. Atheists (especially those of the apostate variety), heretics, LGBTQIA+ folks, and social deviants of all kinds often find ourselves having to reject family, redefine it, or both. What can examining different eras, cultures, languages, political ideologies — and yes, even religions — teach us about how to create and sever family ties? Is the notion of family worth bending or is it already broken?
Not only will Eli be speaking, but they’re also going to be hosting Trivia for us on Friday night! Absolutely a fan favorite of the con, we can’t wait to see what this multi-hyphenate wunderkind has in store for us.
